This has been going on for so long it's not even funny. For example, most people who've seen only the Wizard of Oz movie probably wouldn't remember that in the book, the slippers were silver, Glinda and the Good Witch of the North were not the same character, the witch died midway through the story, and the whole thing was NOT just a dream.

Books are amazing. Without books, life would be so boring and unimaginative.

If I can recall, the only movie adaption I can think of where everyone always thinks of the book first is "Eragon" Not only was it one of the worst adaptions I have ever seen, but the movie itself wasn't all that great either.... Something about the whole thing seemed.... Off.... Rushed even.... :iconpokerface--plz: (That's the same feeling I got off of the "Half Blood Prince" That was the most rushed movie I had ever seen! I had NO idea what was going on...)

And I've been comment stalking a bit (Because that's what I do~o~o) and I can think of another adaption that possibly surpasses the book: How To Train Your Dragon. I read about what the original stories were about, and I gotta say, the movie just felt like a better story.

Though it depends on which book/movie adaption is being discussed, I try to keep an open mind with regard to each given example.

This would be extraordinarily difficult with movies like the Avengers.

So...many...books...

If the writers of that movie tried to incorporate all of the separate comics into that one movie in some way, their heads would explode :O

Haha, that is very true! I mostly just meant films that are based off of one novel. Not a billion comic books! :phew:

I normally like the book better than the movie, but there have been a few exceptions. I thought the movie Jaws was far superior to the book. And then there are those rare cases where both the book and movie are equally as good, like To Kill A Mockingbird. :D

I agree wholeheartedly! There are some rare exceptions where the movie lives up to, or even surpasses the book. Jaws is a perfect example (though I love the movie and the novel). In my opinion, the film gave more depth to the characters. There are still some aspects of the novel I wish they would have kept (ie, Quint killing the shark, Chief Brody being the only survivor), but all in all I think I prefer the movie. And To Kill A Mockingbird had a great film adaptation- but it stayed very loyal to the novel, which is why it was so good. :D

I agree with this, sort of. If a movie dosnt follow the book, i just see how it is as a movie and maybe like them both. :)

Why, if more people read, than maybe we writers would get as much respect as actors, directors, sports stars, and Kim Kardashian.

Never may that happen! :sarcasm:

Seriously, though, just added this stamp to my collection.

Books FTW. Sometimes movies aren't even generally similar to their books. An excellent example is Blood and Chocolate. -_-

I AGREE!!! :iconbravoplz: I really dislike it when people actually FORGET a book exists! I mean, nobody refers to Wizard of Oz or Charlie and the Chocolate factory as books anymore, in fact they probably don't even know there IS a book! It is so sad. And there ARE books, and they are WAY better.

Well, there are some cases where the movie doesn't do the book justice in the slightest. (Timeline or Congo for example) But I don't think that if you see a movie that you absolutely hate you should have to read the book. I mostly just meant that if you're a real fan of a movie, you should go read its book!
And thank you for the comment/fav/use!

oh man people who just see the movie are missing some great parts from the book. the movies sometimes can't even compare to the actual book.
